Healthy New Years Resolutions

Often, our New Years Resolutions are focused on changing ourselves in some way instead of being focused on growing as a person or working towards meaningful goals. First, we'll list some tips for maintaining New Years Resolutions, then list some examples of resolutions that focus on happiness, mindfulness, and self-compassion.

Tips For Maintaining New Years Resolutions:

  1. Make your goals SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound).

  2. Make sure you have clear reasons for setting each goal.

  3. Find a resolution buddy that you can do your resolutions with.

  4. Integrate your goals into your daily routines.

  5. Stay flexible and adjust your goals if needed.

  6. Avoid an all-or-nothing attitude- if there are periods where you don't maintain your resolution, that doesn't mean you've failed. You can simply start again!

Examples of Healthy New Years Resolutions:

  1. Practice mindfulness regularly

  2. Spend more time doing an activity you love

  3. Start a new hobby

  4. Find new ways to exercise or move your body that you find fun

  5. Work towards maintaining a work-life balance

"Each New Year, we have a brand new book containing 365 blank pages. Let us fill them with all the forgotten things from last year- the words we forgot to say, the love we forgot to show, and the charity we forgot to offer." -Peggy Toney Horton
